Some cries from my heart, to God:
For the United States of America, Lord, wake us up to your awesome truth and the truth of the world in which we live. While people suffer and hurt and die, in our own nation and around the world, so many of us sit aside, idle and uncaring. Our television, our movies, our books, our games, our pornography—all of these have made us numb. Break through that numbness, mighty God, and open our eyes to the truth. Amen.
For the victims of rape and sexual violence around the world, give them strength and courage where it has been stolen from them. Father, be mindful of their tears. Love them, holy God. Help them to realize it is not their fault. And the hardest thing of all, teach them not to harbor biterness against those who have wronged them, for you alone are judge. Fill their hearts with your love and mercy. Amen.
For a fatherless generation, may you alone define us, our Lord and true Father. Build in us the pure and holy femininity and masculinity which can only come from a loving father. As David sang, “When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.” ( Psalm 27:10 ) Amen.
For anyone struggling with pornographic addiction, convict them and bring them to freedom. Teach them that it is not okay, that it hurts. Break through the wall it builds between them and reality. Do not let them remain comfortable and numb. Father, you know I have been there and by your grace I am free, never to return again. Speak into their lives the words, “You are not alone.” Help them to realize they cannot fight it alone. They need your help and the help of others. Father, forgive them; they do not know what they are doing. (Romans 7-8 ) Amen.
For all those involved in the pornographic industry, break their plans and break their spirits. They were made for more than this. Teach them your wrath and mercy: that even though they have wronged themselves and you, you love them anyway. Set them free, Father, for your glory. Amen.
For the campus of Florida State University, I ask you to begin to soften the hearts of us all. May you break us from the false party culture in which we live. Destroy anything in our hearts that blasphemes your name. Bring us deep conviction for our sins and repentant hearts. But have mercy on us, by the blood Jesus, and make us new. Along with many others who are waiting to see the same, I ask you to bring us revival, a terrible and glorious downpour of you Spirit. Amen.
Lord, may I do as Paul and “die daily” to myself and my own selfish desires. May all I do glorify the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
